Fundación Inatec manager Jon Barrenetxea-Arando participates in the 18th Álava Corporate Social Responsibility Forum (FOARSE) Conference

During the 18th edition of the Álava Corporate Social Responsibility Forum (FOARSE) Conference, Jon Barrenetxea-Arando, manager of Fundación Inatec, presented the projects that OTUA is developing to tackle the challenge of decarbonisation in various sectors. These projects include HORIZON CAESAR, HORIZON TRINEFLEX, HAZITEK Postauto, HAZITEK Decesi, HAZITEK Esmeral and ELKARTEK Ciriamet.

Key projects:

  • HAZITEK Postauto researches recycling technologies for plastics post-consumption, specifically polypropylene (PP) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), from the automobile sector. Its aim is to recover the value of these materials and in this way promote the circular economy.
  • HAZITEK Decesi seeks to reduce the carbon footprint of cement through solutions to recover mineral fractions from energy recovery processes, using these materials in construction and minimising landfill waste.
  • HAZITEK Esmeral centres on developing technological solutions to improve the circularity of the metal industry in the Basque Country, namely aluminium, zinc and copper, reducing dependence on raw materials from elsewhere and reducing the carbon footprint.
  • ELKARTEK Ciriamet develops smart technology based on artificial intelligence for the classification, separation, recovery and reuse of valuable metals in recycling unused vehicles, enhancing industrial competitiveness and bolstering the ecological and digital transition.
  • HORIZON CAESAR groups together steel producers, recyclers, technology developers and research centres to validate enhanced technologies to sort ferrous scrap on an industrial scale. The project aims to maximise the recovery of low quality scrap in Europe, whilst also ensuring a high quality product and generating routes for recovering non-ferrous fractions.
  • HORIZON TRINEFLEX brings together experts in energy management and industrial decarbonisation, digitalization and Big Data. Developed solutions will be implemented in five demonstration cases in sectors like glass, aluminium, water and copper, to drive the transition towards zero net emissions by 2050.
